The Alaskan Glass Benders
"My Name is Norbert Renaud,
I am originally from France, but lived most of my life in Ireland. My father first discovered Ireland in the late sixties for a fishing holiday and quickly fell in love with the place and decided to make the move permanently . As a fisherman its hard not to like this part of Ireland. With 365 lakes and rivers in a small radius this place offers a wide variety of fishing styles. From small rivers to big lakes pikes are the main predator here. With a temperate climate they can grow fast and big are love eating flies. The stories are true, Irish pikes are hard fighters and will test your gear.
Fly fishing came rather late in my fishing life, i fished "normal" gear for years, from spinning to sea fishing, i tried my hand at anything fishing related.
Fly tying started the same day i picked a fly rod, for me the two are strongly linked. The feeling of fooling a big fish on your own creation is unbeatable.
I tie for myself, and for clients that visit my fishing lodge that. Its a small lodge, 10 rods max per week, over the years the guests are mostly all friends now. (www.ile-verte.com)
When i can i like taking trips abroad, for myself or as hosted trips, like the recent one in Alaska.
Nowadays i only fish fiberglass rods, i find them so addictive, from the cast to fighting a trophy fish they never let me down. Between running the lodge, guiding, tying flies, i try to share some of my experiences via social media. When i started fly fishing for pike very little was available online, so in the early days i started a blog that is still going... (www.norbertrenaud.blogspot.com) but now i am more active on Instagram and YouTube."
